If you’ve ever thought about having professional portraits taken of your dog, you might have hesitated with questions like:
- “My dog isn’t trained—will they sit still for photos?”
- “Does my pet have to be off leash?”
- “What if my dog gets nervous around strangers or new places?”
- “Life is so busy right now—how do I find the time?”
These are completely normal concerns, and as a professional pet photographer, I can assure you that your dog is absolutely right for pet portraits. Every dog, whether bouncy and energetic or calm and reserved, has a unique personality worth capturing. At Blue Merle Photography, I specialize in creating a relaxed, fun environment where every pet shines—no matter their quirks.

Your Dog Doesn’t Need to Be Trained
Worried your dog won’t “sit and stay” on command? Don’t be! Most dogs aren’t professional models (though they certainly look like it in the final photos). Whether your pup knows basic commands or prefers to do their own thing, I have plenty of tricks to capture their attention and highlight their personality. Sessions are tailored to your dog’s comfort level, so we can let them explore, play, and just be themselves.
For more active pups, I use techniques to capture their natural energy in motion, creating dynamic and joyful portraits. For quieter or more reserved dogs, patience and gentle guidance help bring out their most endearing traits.

Every Dog Has a Perfect Time for Portraits
Many pet parents wonder if it’s the “right time” for a photoshoot. Whether your dog is a curious puppy, an adventurous adult, or a senior enjoying their golden years, there’s no wrong time for portraits. Each stage of your dog’s life is special and worth celebrating.
If life feels hectic, don’t worry—my sessions are designed to fit into your schedule with ease. Once we set a date, I’ll take care of the rest, from planning the session to designing the final artwork. All you need to do is show up with your dog and enjoy the experience!

Creating a Safe and Comfortable Experience
Some dogs feel nervous in new environments or around unfamiliar people, and that’s perfectly okay. I take the time to build trust with your pet before picking up the camera. My goal is to make the session enjoyable for your dog, whether that means letting them sniff around the location, bringing their favorite toy, or offering treats and gentle encouragement. Your pet’s safety and comfort are my biggest priority, so I’m always in tune with their emotions. For safety reasons, your pet will be on their leash for the session. But don’t worry, with some editing magic, I remove any sign of the leash so you just have portraits of your beautiful pet!

Beautiful Portraits of Every Pet
Every dog is unique, and I believe every pet deserves stunning portraits that capture their personality and the bond you share. From high-energy pups to shy companions, I have years of experience bringing out the best in every dog.
Your dog doesn’t need to be perfectly trained or act a certain way—they just need to be themselves. With patience, creativity, and a deep love for animals, I’ll create images you’ll cherish for a lifetime.
