Every once in a while, you need to step away from your routine and immerse yourself in something that lights your soul on fire. For me, that spark has always been animals, nature, and photography. This fall, I had the chance to combine all three during a pet photography workshop in beautiful Nova Scotia. This experience reminded me why I love what I do and inspired me to bring even more creativity back to my clients here in Dunedin and the Tampa Bay area.
Why Nova Scotia?
I chose this workshop because I wanted to reconnect with my art in a truly inspiring place. Nova Scotia’s landscapes are straight out of a dream: dramatic coastlines, lush forests, hidden waterfalls, and salty winds that make every moment feel alive. The idea of learning from talented mentors while being surrounded by wagging tails and breathtaking scenery was exactly what my creative spirit needed.
As a pet photographer, I believe it’s essential to keep growing, experimenting, and challenging myself. Every trip I take, every workshop I attend, and every new environment I photograph in helps me refine my eye and my techniques, so I can create even better images for my clients and their pets.
The Highlights: Peggy’s Cove + Uisge Ban Falls
Two of the most unforgettable stops on the trip were Peggy’s Cove and Uisge Ban Falls.
Peggy’s Cove is already famous for its rugged coastal beauty, so photographing dogs nearby at the beautiful beach was a whole other level of magic. I was able to actually go to Peggy’s Cove and take some beautiful photos. It was one of those moments where everything just clicked (literally and creatively).
Then came Uisge Ban Falls, where the forest opened up to a cool, cascading waterfall. Dogs splashed, played, and chased each other through the water while we photographed from the river’s edge. The combination of movement, light, and pure dog joy created some of my favorite images from the entire trip.
These locations reminded me of how deeply I love blending nature with pets, capturing how dogs interact with wild, beautiful places.
An Unexpected Gift
What surprised me most wasn’t the landscapes (though they were incredible), or even the photography opportunities: it was the people. The workshop turned into a creative retreat filled with heartfelt conversations, shared challenges, endless laughter, and a sense of community I didn’t expect but deeply appreciated.
Being surrounded by photographers who love dogs as much as I do made every moment richer. We weren’t just learning; we were growing together.
Bringing That Inspiration Back to Tampa Bay
Trips like these fuel me. They challenge me. They help me see differently. And they remind me how important it is to continue honing my craft so I can serve my clients with creativity, intention, and an always-improving skill set.
